Flute Melodies Among the Ruins - Maher Abdel-Qader

The paintings belong to a surrealist art series depicting a modern girl playing a musical instrument, evoking the past and bringing it back to life.

Maher Mohamed Abdel-Qader, born on January 25, 1962, is a full-time Egyptian visual artist specializing in painting. He graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1986 and is an active member of the Syndicate of Visual Artists.
In 2022, he received an honorary doctorate from the American Board, an organization concerned with human development.
Maher has participated in numerous group exhibitions, including several editions of the General Exhibition, the Full-Time Artists Exhibitions in 2022, 2023, and 2024, as well as several editions of the Youth Exhibitions. His more recent exhibitions include the Summer Exhibition at Gallery Demi in 2025, the Opening Season at Gallery Cordoba in 2025, and “Never Sleeps at Night” at Art Corner Alexandria in 2025.
He has held several solo exhibitions in Egypt and abroad, including exhibitions at the Spanish Cultural Center in 1987, the Cairo Atelier in 1991, Gallery Demi in Zamalek in 2022, and Gallery Cordoba in 2022. He also held an exhibition at Gallery H.S. in Vienna, Austria, in 1988, and an exhibition in Saudi Arabia in 1990.
His awards include the First Prize in Drawing from Helwan University in 1984, a Photography Prize in 1986, the First Prize in Drawing from the Supreme Council for Youth in 1984, and the Third Prize in Photography in 1986. He also received the First Prize at the “Egypt 90” Triennial at Workers’ University, as well as the Suzanne Mubarak Award for Best Book Illustration in 1995, recognizing his work during the period from 1990 to 1994.
In 1990, Maher worked as Art Director for “Hind for Arts” House in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and in 1991 he served as Art Director for Kunooz Magazine.
From 1992 to 2025, he worked extensively in the field of writing and illustrating children’s books, combining his skills in writing, illustration, and visual design.
