Mohamed Abla

Mohamed Abla is one of Egypt’s most prominent artists in the field of multimedia art. Born in 1953 in Bilqas, in the Nile Delta, he graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Alexandria in 1973.
After graduation, he spent seven years traveling throughout Europe, studying sculpture and graphic arts in Vienna and Zurich.
His professional career began in 1979 with his first solo exhibition in Hamburg, followed by numerous exhibitions across Europe. He received the First Prize at the Kuwait Biennale in 1994 and the Grand Prize at the Alexandria Biennale in 1997.
His artistic practice focuses on visually deconstructing Egyptian reality. He has also contributed significantly to education and independent cultural work through the establishment of the Fayoum Art Center and the region’s first Caricature Museum. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Abla.
