Al-Darb Al-Wastani in Al-Hattaba - Abdel-Aziz El-Guindy

Al-Darb Al-Wastani in Al-Hattaba is filled with warmth. Its walls radiate emotions and tell stories of those who have lived here for a century or more. Color is one of the means of popular expression among Egyptians, reflecting their openness and straightforwardness, their love of life, and their willingness to move forward without fear. What lies in the heart is always spoken openly.
With its vivid and luminous colors, the alley itself appears like a work of art, a carefully composed space surrounded by color. Rough textures, weathered surfaces, and marks left by time coexist with iron-framed windows, old wooden shutters, and elegant rectangular doors topped with transoms and decorative details. Beautifully shaped balconies display hanging laundry, adding another layer to the visual character of the place.
There is no end to what can be said about Al-Darb Al-Wastani. The greater the details, the greater the inspiration. The artist finds that his tools instinctively know their way, as a channel remains open between the alley, with all its elements and details, and his eye, passing directly into his heart, before emerging onto the surface of the painting in flowing bursts charged with the fresh essence of emotion.

Graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1991, specializing in Graphic Arts.
Received his Master’s degree in 1996 and his PhD in 2001.
Member of the Syndicate of Plastic Artists.
Founder and supervisor of the One-Shot Artists Group since 2002.
Worked as a press illustrator for several publications, including Sabah El-Kheir magazine.
Worked in animation and book arts.
Nominated for the State Award for Excellence by Helwan University in 2022 and by the Syndicate of Plastic Artists in 2024.
Has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions since his student years.
Received four awards at the Youth Salon and an award at the Ismailia Film Festival.
Served as a jury member on numerous committees in the fields of visual arts, animation, and caricature.
In 2024, he was honored and presented with the Golden Pen as a Guest of Honor at the 6th edition of the Dr. Nawar Drawing Award at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Russian University.
In 2025, he was honored by the Ministry of Culture during Culture Day, celebrating Egypt’s creative artists.
