Brian Flynn

Brian Flynn is a British visual artist who has been living permanently in Al-Baairat Village on the West Bank of Luxor since 2005. His relationship with Egypt began with his first visit to Luxor in 1986, and he later chose to leave his life in the United States and settle permanently in Luxor.
Inspired by the beauty of Upper Egypt, its people, ancient Egyptian civilization, and the surrounding landscape, Flynn designed and built his home and studio based on architectural elements inspired by the work of the renowned Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy. He works daily in his studio, creating paintings and sculptures that reflect his deep connection with Egyptian life and culture.
His artistic practice is strongly influenced by Sufism and the spiritual traditions he encountered in Egypt. Many of his works portray dervishes and Sufi figures, alongside elements inspired by ancient Egyptian civilization and African faces. Through his art, he seeks to introduce international audiences to aspects of Egyptian life, spirituality, and cultural heritage.
Flynn has exhibited his works extensively in Egypt and internationally, including exhibitions in Paris, Italy, and the United States. In Egypt, one of his notable exhibitions was “Athir” in West Luxor, where he presented 35 paintings and sculptures.
His artistic style is characterized by freedom and a refusal to be confined to a specific artistic school or fixed boundaries. He draws inspiration from the natural environment, ancient Egyptian heritage, and the spiritual life surrounding him in Luxor. Through distinctive lines, colors, and expressive representations of faces and figures, he creates works that reflect his unique artistic vision and his profound connection to Egypt.
After many years of living among the people of Al-Baairat, Flynn has become an integral part of the local community. His love for Sufi traditions, spiritual gatherings, and the people of Upper Egypt has deeply influenced both his life and artistic expression.
