Unearthing Egypt’s Heritage Through Contemporary Craft

I have always been captivated by Egypt’s handmade treasures, where every stitch, pattern, and texture tells a story of centuries past. My journey began with a question that has guided me ever since: how can these ancient crafts survive in modern homes while staying true to their soul? Among them, Khayameya, the intricate, colorful appliqué patterns once hand-stitched into tent interiors stood out as a national treasure, a symbol of skill, culture, and pride that once graced every Egyptian household.

In the past, every home had a piece of Khayameya art, a testament to Egypt’s rich heritage. The work was labor-intensive, the designs complex, and each piece carried the unique mark of the artisan. Today, I bring a modern reinterpretation of Khayameya, preserving its essence while making it functional and accessible for contemporary living. These motifs now appear on quilts, cushions, table runners, and even clothing—allowing this national treasure to continue telling its story in new spaces.

Driven by a career change and my deep passion for Egypt’s handmade arts, I studied interior design to combine environmental responsibility with respect for artisanal heritage. My mission is to rescue these crafts from fading away, giving them a place in modern homes without losing their soul.

Each piece I create does more than decorate a home, it evokes Egypt’s landscapes: the dark hills, colorful rocks, and palm-lined banks of the Nile. It’s a bridge between past and present, tradition and contemporary living, craftsmanship and storytelling.
